The Pie Hole Blend: One Blend To Rule Them All–By Bianca Molina, Director of Coffee
In a coffee world obsessed with single origins, we developed a blend that is so versatile, so delicious, and so amazingly complex that we use it for absolutely everything, sometimes even pie! What’s this glorious coffee we speak of? Well, it’s the Pie Hole Blend. This specialty blend can be found at every location being served as an espresso, batch brewed coffee, cold brew, and even as a nitro coffee. The best part? It’s offered all year round. With notes of citrus, chocolate, almonds and sweet spices, this coffee highlights different flavor profiles through its various forms of extraction. This fair trade and organic blend is always fresh because we believe in roasting locally, which might I add, is a key component to our coffee philosophy.
Before we get into the specifics of flavor notes and such, let’s talk a little about the origin of this complex blend.
Sourced from Family Run and Co Op Farms, such as Café Femenino, The Pie Hole Blend is a new take on an old classic.
We wanted to create the comfort of diner coffee and make it so special, that it not only compliments the pies, it makes the union of pie and coffee so memorable that you simply cannot have one without the other. The revival of this American classic duo is made possible through specialty coffees from Latin America and Indonesia. The coffees from Guatemala and Peru fill the blend with flavors of citrus and chocolate. While the Brazilian and Sumatran beans provide hints of almond, cinnamon, and leave you with a subtle smoky yet sweet aftertaste. Complex, right? Complex, and oh – so – good!
When you have a Pie Hole espresso, you get the perfect balance of acidity, bitterness, sweetness and spice all in just one sip. What me to get a little more specific with flavors? I’d love to! When you take your first sip, you’ll get a splash of grapefruit in the front of your mouth, followed by a hint of dark chocolate in the back of your tongue, ending with notes of cinnamon and almond blanketing your tongue. Leaving you with a sweet and smoky aftertaste. Sounds amazing, right?
Pair it with milk (yes- we also offer milk alternatives) and the espresso amplifies its natural sweetness. If you’re more of a classic Cup ‘o’ Joe type of person, try our brewed coffee, a classic cup with subtle notes of dried cherry, chocolate, and clementine.
Cold Brew and Nitro Cold Brew bring out all the chocolate you can imagine. With a smooth mouth-feel, you get rich notes of chocolate, a hint of almond and subtle citrus notes. Also, if you’ve never had nitro coffee, you must give it a try soon.
When nitrogen and coffee interact, a smoother, aerated coffee with a terrific creaminess is created. Acidity is diminished, there is a much more complex aroma, and through the micro-bubbles a flavorful palette is dispersed. The nitrogen keeps the coffee cold longer and ensures the best tasting and smoothest coffee you have ever tasted.
Do yourself a favor. Visit a Pie Hole, and treat yourself to a slice of pie and a cup of the Pie Hole Blend. Oh, did I mention, in honor of National Coffee Day, we’ll be giving out a free cup of coffee with any purchase, because you deserve it. See you on National Coffee Day!
